Our Story

“Extreme Quality Laser-Cut RC Airplane Kits & Unique Plans”

I built my first wooden, glue-together model when I was five years old, a Guillow’s Sopwith Camel. (Thankfully my dad convinced me to just make it a static model.) If you have ever built one back then (we’re talking 1970’s), you know that the balsa quality (rock-hard) and dye-marking (parts weren’t cut; just thick, blue ink lines) were atrocious and undoubtedly discouraged many modelers. Since then I have built well over a hundred kits, and scratch-built, from a wide range of manufacturers. 50+ years and counting

I have been flying radio control almost as long, being able to tag along with my dad and brother, getting a little stick time when my dad got it “three mistakes high.” Fun-fly, sport, thermal, slope, pattern, pylon, scale, combat, ducted fans, turbines, mass-scaled prototypes, and even one full-size experimental aircraft (18m span). My love of flying led me to two degrees in Aeronautical Engineering and becoming an aerodynamicist designing advanced combat aircraft.

It just so happens my almost life-long best friend and RC dynamo, John Lupperger, has nearly identical tastes in aircraft as I do. He has designed several kits manufactured by various companies, including Hobby Shack, Global, Balsa USA, and more. John has collected hundreds of interesting and unique plans from all over the globe, most of which current RC flyers have never laid eyes on.

We love building with balsa, and fully believe ‘balsa flies better.’ We also love airplanes that are a bit different from the mainstream flyers, so expect to see some oddities.

In creating AeroHead Designs, we set some specific goals for our kits:

  • great quality balsa
  • very accurate parts
  • easy to build
  • fun to fly
  • quality accessories

3D CAD designed, laser-cut parts, hyper-accurate, tab/slot/notching, fresh plans, and detailed build instructions are the hallmark of our full kits.

Together, John and I still act like we are in our teens and 20’s (and act as mature as that, ask our wives), and we completely geek-out over every new airplane we create.

We hope you will join us in sharing the fun and reward of building our kits, and experience the fun that is RC flying!
